All in One : World Meditation Day 5th August, 2007
At the end of last month, we marked two consecutive sacred days: Asarnha Bucha Day and the Entering of the Rainy Season Day which being regarded as the Commencement of the Lent. During this three-month period, it can be a time for everyone to start anew, such as to contemplate one’s life, to vow to correct past mistakes and to initiate new steps towards something better, especially to start cultivating more merit and more earnestly. This upcoming first Sunday of the month, 5th August, 2007, coincides with the first Sunday of the Lenten period. It can be one of the most auspicious days on the calendar. Besides, the Ceremony of Offering the Sustenance to the Lord Buddha to be arranged as monthly usual, it is customary at Dhammakaya Temple that the Birthday Celebration of H.M. the Queen as well as the Celebration of the National Mother Day which fall on the same date of 12th August are integrated into this occasion. It is the special time every year when Thais unite their hearts as one to dedicate merit we make to the selfless Queen and to wish her a long life.
Moreover, the World Meditation Day which is appointed on 6th August every year by WFBY is scheduled to be commemorated through the meditation session on this Sunday’s ceremony as well.
There are many more set to happen. Monks from over 3000 temples across the nation will join the event to receive requisite offerings from the congregation. Also, the Ceremony of Relief Offering to the monks from 266 temples of the 4 southern provinces which is usually organized monthly within the unrest region is included in this special day.
Due to the gathering of a large numbers of monks, it is a delight opportunity for Buddhist people to participate in the most popular merit making moment to do the meal offering to the huge ecclesiastical community at lunch time. All these ensure that Buddhism will perpetuate in the long future under the strong support of the lay people.
The looking-forwards event by all Pali Studies graduates is the Annual Congratulation Ceremony held in the afternoon. In this session, scholarships are rewarded to the outstanding Pali Schools with the distinguish record of graduates in the previous academic year. This session is arranged with the purpose to uphold Pali Studies to be popular among Buddhist community both monks and laities because the original Teachings of the Lord Buddha are maintained in the Pali language. The Lord Buddha set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma more than two and a half centuries ago on the Asarnha Bucha Day for the benefit of mankind. Let us in this generation enjoy the benefit of what He passed down to us with His Great Compassion by following the score of ways He recommended. On the auspicious Sunday, 5th August 2007, it is a can-not-be-missed chance providing various merit-making activities that we can easily take part of it and to set our Wheel of Pursuit in motion to cultivate more and more good deeds to make a more meaningful life.Schedule
